Communication Malfunction - Can you hear me now?

Only Jesus can fix this broken generation.

In my household, it never fails that every birthday wish list and Christmas wish list contains a request for some type of technology from my kids. If it’s not a cell phone, it’s an iPad or iPod or some type of techy gadget. With every request they get a lecture regarding their desire for a cell phone. Until they can afford their own monthly phone bill or until they are emotionally mature and responsible, there is absolutely no need for it.

I remind them constantly of their peers who are just emotionally unstable,  have low self-esteem, no people skills, bad body language, lack of proper etiquette and overall negative behavior as a result of being glued to a phone screen.

WWW on the internet stands for World Wide Web and when we hand a child a cell phone that allows the Whole Wide World into the palm of their hands. Their innocent hands and minds are corrupted and they get easily influenced through social media, through texting, through non-filtered opinions of others.

This generation is much smarter (I will give them that. LOL) and they get easily bored and they are just growing up way too fast. We live in a time where it’s all about instant gratification. They don’t want to work hard, they want to see the fruit of their labor right now. They are a generation born with entitlement. You have kids who tell their parents what to do, what they need to get them. They demand things of their parents and parents provide it openly for the fear of alienation or retaliation.

Where is God in all this?

The bible says don’t withhold discipline from your children. Do not spare the rod, there is a thick line between discipline and abuse. As a parent you shape them into proper adults from their infancy. You are responsible for their well being physically, mentally and most of all spiritually. They learn and develop character from the home. They learn the value of a penny and what hard work is from the home. They learn how to treat others and how they view themselves from the home.

Parents are quick to put blame off on others when their kids mess up but are not taking preventative steps to avoid trouble down the road from a young age. It is my love for my kids that I do not allow them to be easily influenced by things of this world. We are sheltering them until they are of age where they can decipher for themselves what’s truly good and what is not. We are the driving force behind our children’s journey. In order to ensure they reach their destination, we ought to think twice about what we give them access to.

If you love your kids fill them with things of the light, walk with them, enjoy them before they grow up too soon and don’t want to spend time with you. There are a million things they could be doing instead of staring at a phone screen. Instead of giving them face time with friends, give them face time with God! You reap what you sow into your children’s lives.

Enjoy our pictures of the life my kids have without internet at home, cable tv, cell phones or any other techy distraction. If you ask them how old they have to be in order to get a cell phone, they will tell you 35 years old. By then, I figure, they would have both graduated from college, living on their own, paying their own bills and enjoying the fruits of their hard labor through the grace of God.

Hi Everyone! My apologies for not keeping up as often as I had hoped. I assure you it wasn't done intentionally. I find blogging to be very therapeutic and I enjoy it very much and try to blog as often as my time permits.

We've been busy the last few weeks but did manage to take Family Pictures which we hope to be a regular occurrence for our family. If not seasonal than definitely annually. 

Fishing season is ending soon, we took the kids out there last week and did not have any luck catching anything. But as always, it is still lots of fun to be out on the pier to enjoy the scenic view, cool breeze, people watching and good old fashioned pier fun.

We registered the kids online already for the new school year, very exciting. Next week we go to pick up class schedules. It's nice to hear they are semi excited to start school again. YAY!

As of today, there are 54 days left of summer! Enjoy it while you can, as nothing lasts forever. Seasons change as do the seasons in our lives. Although change is inevitable, there is one thing that is constant and that is GOD! He never changes, He is the same yesterday, today, tomorrow and forever.

I grew up constantly hearing that but as life happens, it becomes more surreal. We are here for but a moment. One moment we are surrounded by our loved ones, the next some are gone like the wind.

Love them while you can, cherish every moment, make lasting memories that will last a lifetime.
